Thank you for wanting to help out by fundraising for Pillars of Strength. We are always grateful to our supporters – you provide us with much-needed money to keep Pillars of Strength up and running: building communities across Australia where men help men.
As you may already realise, there are lots of ways that you can raise money for a cause - but to make your efforts worthwhile, you need to go about it in the right way.
A big issue for most people when donating money to a cause is the ability to get a tax deduction. Although this can be pretty easy to set up (and we will give you a couple of great options), it is vital that your efforts aren't wasted because you didn't take a few simple steps. You would hate to run a marathon then have to tell your sponsors afterwards that their pledges are going to cost them nearly twice as much as they thought!
To make this easy for you, below are three options for you - depending on what sort of fundraising you want to do.
Facebook has made it really easy to set up a fundraiser. All you do is register Pillars of Strength online as a personal cause, tell your friends and family and sit back and wait for the money to roll in.
We have tried this already with our friends and its almost no effort we raised our target inside a few days. With a tiny bit of promotion (just share the fundraiser to your friends - and maybe update them when Facebook tells you how you are going and how close to the finish line you are) you should be able to achieve some really meaningful donations to help us help dads across Australia.
The PayPal Giving fund handles all the financial transactions, ensuring that your friends get the benefit of Pillars of Strength's DGR status.
If you are climbing Everest, running a marathon, taking part in a fun run, holding a BBQ or doing anything else for which you would like sponsorship to benefit Pillars of Strength, then we would like you to use the GiveNow service to do this.
GiveNow is an Australian social enterprise and has a great online portal that guides you through the steps you need to take to get your fundraising activity - which they call a crowdraiser - off and running.
Their system allows you to put up photos and videos, track how you are doing and it manages all of the financials for you, ensuring that your sponsors money goes directly to your cause and that they are given the receipts to allow them to claim it on their tax.
For those of you who want to hold a large or complex fundraising event like the George Maher & Hamish Howard Remembrance Golf Day held every year in Wagga Wagga, we are here to help.
Just let us know and we can take care of everything you need, working in partnership with you and your mates to hold a successful event with plenty of fun for your participants whilst maximising the result for Pillars of Strength. We are experienced event managers and have all the necessary collateral and online tools to make your day a success.
As these events are often complex to organise and run, especially due to the complex rules around tax deductibility of event fees and pledges/auction items, if you want to do one of these, then just drop us a line and we will help you set it up, organise and run whatever parts you need help for.
